Thaddeus C. Sweet

Thaddeus Campbell Sweet (born November 16, 1872 in Phoenix , Oswego County , New York , †  May 1, 1928 in Whitney Point , New York) was an American politician . Between 1923 and 1928 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thaddeus Sweet attended the public schools in his home country as well as the Phoenix Academy . He then worked as a traveling dealer for two years. From 1895 he was involved in the manufacture of paper. He became president of Sweet Paper Manufacturing Co. He also worked in the banking industry. Between 1896 and 1899 he was also the city clerk in Phoenix. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1910 and 1920 he was a member of the New York State Assembly , whose speaker he was from 1914.

After the death of Member of Parliament Luther W. Mott , Sweet was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on November 6, 1923. After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on May 1, 1928 . From 1925 to 1927 he was chairman of the War Department's Expenditure Control Committee. He died in a plane crash at Whitney Point and was buried in Phoenix.
