The Austin Common Standards Revision Group

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Austin Common Standards Revision Group (also known as the Austin Group ) is a technical working group that takes care of the development and maintenance of a common POSIX .1 standard and parts of the Single UNIX Specification .

The working method is defined by the group itself as “write once, apply everywhere” , so the results and standards of the group are often valid. They appear on the one hand as standards of the ISO and IEC , as well as the IEEE and as technical papers of the Open Group itself. This approach is intended to combine the development work of the industry and standardization organizations in a single group in order to achieve better efficiency.

The group currently has over 500 members and is chaired by Andrew Josey of the Open Group . The Open Group runs the day-to-day business of the group, including e-mail and web servers. There are no membership fees or other contributions to be paid.
