The Bridge is the tenth studio album by the American musician Billy Joel .
Emergence
Joel began working on the album in 1985 and completed it in early 1986. Various guest musicians can be heard on the album, for example jazz legend Ray Charles , who contributed his piano playing and vocals to "Baby Grand", or Steve Winwood , who played the Hammond organ in "Getting Closer". The last track recorded for “The Bridge” was “Code Of Silence”, a track that Joel wrote with singer Cyndi Lauper . Lauper can also be heard as a background singer in the song.
In the music video for the hit single "A Matter Of Trust", Joel distanced himself from his image as a " piano man " because in the clip he played a signed Gibson Les Paul instead of sitting at the piano as usual. In the song "Big Man on Mulberry Street", the musician also deals with his childhood on the streets of the places where he and his family lived.
publication
Although "The Bridge" was able to reach a place in the top 10 of the US album charts, the record could not build on the success of its predecessors. The single releases "A Matter of Trust" and "Modern Woman" each took tenth place on the Billboard charts , and the ballad "This Is the Time" was released as a single and reached 18th place on the single charts.
