The Crüxshadows [ ˈkɹuːˌʃædoʊz ] is an American synth rock band from Florida .
Band history
The Crüxshadows was founded in 1992 by Rogue, Sean Flanagan and Tim Curry in Tallahassee . Her debut album ... Night Crawls In was released on cassette in 1993 under her own label Black Widow Music . In 1996 the first CD was released with Telemetry of a Fallen Angel . It features Marilyn, My Bitterness, one of the most famous pieces from The Crüxshadows. In 1997 The Crüxshadows signed a contract with Nesak International , but in the same year they left the label again and switched to Dancing Ferret Discs . Shortly before the re-release of Telemetry of a Fallen Angel in 1998, Curry and Flanagan left the band.
With a new line-up, the album The Mystery of the Whisper was produced in 1998 , the EP Until the Voices Fade in 1999 and the EP Paradox Addendum in 2000 . The piece Deception was released in 2000 on the soundtrack of the computer game Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption . Also in 2000, The Crüxshadows began to deal more actively with the European, especially the German, market. Thus Deception in a German version entitled deception published and a first European tour conducted. In 2001 a best-of was released which was called Intercontinental Drift in Europe and Echoes and Artifacts in the United States . Later editions took over the US title.
In 2002 the EP Tears was released , which stayed in the German alternative charts for eight weeks and reached number 5. In the same year the album Wishfire was released, which reached number 2 in the DAC . In 2003 Ethernaut appeared with the song Winter Born (This Sacrifice) . The 2004 CD Fortress in Flames contained remixes. The cover design of the albums Ethernaut and Fortress in Flames was done by Chad Michael Ward .
With Shadowbox the first DVD was released in 2005, which contains recordings from the performance at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2004, several music videos and a documentary about the band. The DVD also included the EP Foreverlast . In 2007 the album Dreamcypher was released, the songs Sophia and Birthday were also released as a single. In the summer, violinist Rachel left the band.
In 2008 guitarist George Adam Bikos and dancer Sarah Poulos left the band to get married. In the same year rogue and dancer Jessica DuPont (née Lackey) married, who gave birth in 2011. The line-up was expanded to include violinists Johanna Moresco and David Wood and guitarist Valerie Gentile, who was replaced by Cassandra Luger in 2009 and Mike Perez in 2010.
In 2008, 2009 and 2011 the singles Immortal , Quicksilver and Valkyrie were released, for which music videos were produced.
In August 2012 the album As the Dark against my Halo was released as part of a European tour. After the Dragon * Con 2012 Jenne Vermes left the band; Jessica switched from dancing to percussion. New dancers were Ally Knight and Stacia Hamilton from 2012 to 2015, and Suzy Specter and Brittney Newsom from 2015.
success
Although the band comes from the USA , they have had their greatest success so far, especially in Europe , especially in Germany's black scene . In 2002, 2004, 2007 and 2014 she played at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen . In 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2013 and 2017 they performed at the M'era Luna Festival , in 2008 at the Blackfield Festival and in 2010 and 2012 at the Amphi Festival . The band also had their first chart success in Germany.
The band is known for extensive touring activities, they play over 100 concerts per year in front of up to 25,000 spectators.
The biggest commercial success for The Crüxshadows was the single Sophia , which reached number 1 on the US Hot Dance Singles Sales chart. In the general single charts, Sophia also reached the top ten at number 7. Rogue said in an interview that the good chart placement had to do with an appearance at Dragon * Con .
style
Stylistically, The Crüxshadows can be assigned to the rock and electro-pop environment, while the band's earlier songs occasionally tended towards the dark wave environment.
The combination of electric violin , electric guitar and synthesizer with Rogue's vocals result in the characteristic sound of the Crüxshadows.
In terms of content, the complex texts often relate to Egyptian and Greek mythology as well as Christian topics.
