Theobald II. (Bar)

Theobald II von Bar (* 1221 ; † 1291 ) was Count von Bar from 1240 until his death .

Life

He was the son of Count Heinrich II von Bar and his wife Philippa von Dreux. His father fell in the Holy Land in 1239, which Theobald did not find out until 1240. Since he was still a minor, his mother took over the reign for him until 1242 .

In 1253 Theobald took part in the Battle of Westkapelle , the military climax of the Flemish War of Succession.

Theobald was enemies with his brother-in-law, Count Heinrich V of Luxembourg . In 1266 he attacked him and captured Ligny . Then he won a battle near Prény on September 14, 1266 and took Heinrich prisoner. To end the conflict, the French King Louis IX was founded in 1268 . requested an arbitration award. Theobald had to return Ligny to the Count of Luxembourg, who had to pay homage to him in return for this fief.

Descendants

In 1243 he married Jeanne de Dampierre, daughter of Guillaume II. De Dampierre (* 1196; † 1231), Lord of Dampierre and Vice Count of Troyes, and Margaret of Constantinople . After she died childless, he married Jeanne de Toucy, daughter Jeans de Toucy and Jeannes de Laval. He had the following children with her:
