Thiohydantoins are heterocyclic thiourea compounds of α- amino acids , which are important as intermediates in amino acid synthesis and in the elucidation of the structure of polypeptides.

Thiohydantoins arise from the reaction of α-amino acids with esters of isothiocyanic acid. The main body of the thiohydantoins is 2-thiohydantoin (R = H; C 3 H 4 N 2 OS; CAS number : 503-87-7).
