The Thistle Inn is a historic Wellington building and one of New Zealand's oldest pubs .

The 1840 building on Mulgrave Street was rebuilt after a fire in 1866. Until parts of Wellington Harbor were filled , the building stood only a few meters from the coast, and guests often came by boat. The chief Te Rauparaha is said to have been among them .

The Thistle Inn is featured in Leves Amores , a 1907 short story by Katherine Mansfield .

The building is registered as a Category I Monument by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust .
