Tholos tomb by Marcela

The Tholos tomb of Marcela, also Marcella, preserved only in the lower area ; on the outskirts of Vila Real de Santo António , on the border with Spain , in the Algarve in Portugal, has a regular stone circle of 13 slabs and a long, double-stepped corridor, the curbs of which are partially preserved. The paved end piece at the transition to the chamber is well preserved. The middle, slightly trapezoidal corridor area is particularly disturbed. The better preserved entrance part is also trapezoid and is narrowest at the entrance. Part of the completely paved chamber is divided into quarters by three vertical slabs .

It is one of the burials with the richest finds. There were retouched flint triangles around the edges , three ornamental vessels, and 43 axes, almost all made of diorite , including unprecedented specimens that imitate Almería III level copper axes . Human bones from more than 80 people of all ages and of both sexes come from this dolmen .
