Tichitt (from the mazirischen ⵜⵉⵛⵉⵜ Ticit ; arabic تيشيت, DMG Tīšīt ) also Tichit, Tichite; is an old oasis town in the Tagant region at the foot of the Tagant Plateau in eastern Mauritania .
The place is about 250 kilometers east of Tidjikja . Founded around 1150, it was the trading center of Tagant in the 17th century and is known for its traditional stone houses. The main source of income is the date cultivation , there is also a small museum.
The city is since 1996 along with three other Mauritanian caravan cities, Ouadane , Chinguetti and Oualata , due to their Ksour to the site of the UNESCO - World Heritage declared.
