Zurich Zoo Society

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zurich Zoo Society (TGZ) is the official association of the Zurich Zoo and, as of 2019, has more than 40,000 members who mainly help with the financing of the expansion projects.

It was founded on April 3, 1925 and was actually intended to direct and manage the city's new zoological garden. When the Zoological Garden Cooperative was founded in 1928, mainly for financial reasons, Article 1 of its statutes read: “Under the name of the Zurich Zoological Garden, a cooperative for an indefinite period was set up in the city of Zurich to build and operate a zoological garden. " As a result, the TGZ realigned its goals and from then on dedicated itself to promoting the zoo by collecting money and donations for the zoo through repeated campaigns. However, the name has remained to this day.

The TGZ is co-editor of the Zoo Journal and the Zoonews as well as the Swiss Zoo Calendar. Until 1999 she also organized the zoo morning shop , a charity event that always took place on the first Sunday morning during the guest performance of Circus Knie in Zurich.
