Tiger wood or Gonçalo alves , Muiracatiara , is the name for wood species from various tree species of the genus Astronium such as; Astronium graveolens , Astronium fraxinifolium , Astronium lecointei and Astronium balansae from northern South America.

The wood of Lovoa trichilioides (African walnut) from Africa is also known as tiger wood . Wood from Paramachaerium schomburgkii from northern Brazil is also called this, but it is of low value. Also Erythrina standleyana and Erythrina rubrinervia be described with Tiger wood.

The streaky grain of the wood is reminiscent of a tiger skin. Zebra wood is similar .
