action

The novel is about an Australian boy named Simon Savage who lives near Sydney. When his father Hale disappears without a trace one day, he and his family get an offer from an ominous Captain Cutler that leads them to England for further investigations. The family agrees and Simon goes to what is believed to be an elite boarding school there. What Simon doesn't know, however, is that his father worked there with Cutler in a top-secret organization. This is the so-called “time bureau”, which has created the possibility of making people travel through time with the help of a time accelerator invented by Hale Savage.

After several days at the elite school, which later turns out to be the time office, Simon learns that he himself should be trained as a time agent. As part of this training, he meets his new partner Danice, who originally dates from 2321, along with other young time agents. She was kidnapped in the run-up to the 21st century by agents from the time agency. After some time missions, which until then only took them into the past for training purposes, they now have to travel into the future as the first time agents. They are supposed to trace the traces of a strange time traveler back to the year 2321, who obviously also has the time travel technique. It turns out that this man who calls himself the "chief" is actually Simon's father. He sends children through time so that they steal gold from the past for him in order to protect himself and his subordinates from brutal rulers, the so-called tribunes. Hale originally fled to the future because members of the military wanted to use time travel as a weapon. Since he only wanted to use the time travel technique for peaceful purposes, he decided to withhold this technique from the public. After Simon realizes that the chief is his father, the joy is great, but not long-lasting, because Hale knows that he must flee again to prevent misuse of the time travel technique. Finally, Simon and Danice stay behind, but more missions are already in the pipeline.
