Titlo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cyril. d with Titlo, kyrill. Number sign for 4

The titlo is a diacritical mark that was used in old Cyrillic texts and is still used today in Church Slavonic . It is drawn as a zigzag line over text. Usually a zigzag line upwards is used, but sometimes a square bracket turned downwards is used.

One of their meanings was to distinguish Cyrillic numbers from normal letters. It was also used as an abbreviation symbol, with so-called noun sacra , for example the names for God and Christ, being abbreviated in this way. It was also used as a correction sign if a letter was left out and there was no more space to write it over the place.
