A gate screen (lighting jargon : "barn gate " ) is a wing-like metal screen that is attached to headlights to break or limit the light cone. This means that the lighting can be limited to one object, while neighboring objects remain unlit. Gate covers are used in event technology , especially in theaters .

Gate covers are indispensable for the stage lighting of theater productions, because only with their help is it possible to clearly distinguish between illuminated and non-illuminated stage areas. In the theater, there must often be light exactly up to the edge of the backdrop , with shadow right next to it.
