Total Access Communication System (TACS) is a standard for analog cellular radio. TACS is the European version of AMPS . ETACS is an extended version of TACS with more channels. TACS and ETACS have been replaced by GSM in Europe . In the UK , Vodafone's last ETACS network was shut down on May 31, 2001. It was in operation for 16 years. In Italy there was a TACS network from Telecom Italia , in Austria the postal and telegraph administration operated a TACS network (D network). This was continued to operate by Mobilkom Austria after the restructuring and privatization of the post . In Germany there were no cellular networks that used this standard; the so-called C network was used here.
