Tranchée ( French ) used to be called the trench of a fortress .

The Tranchéemajor was responsible for the construction and maintenance of the trenches during the formal attack on the fortress.

Tranchéekavalier (also Tranchéekavalier, Tranchéekatze or attack cavalier) was a building made of earth, fascines and sandbags , two to three meters high, which was used during the formal attack for the elevated installation of shooters and artillery . After the introduction of indirect shot , this type of warfare was abandoned.
