Slide board

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A sliding board or ferrying board is an aid for wheelchair users to facilitate the transition from wheelchair to another seat, the bed or in the car.

Slide boards usually consist of a wooden or plastic plate with a width of 20 to 30 cm and a length between 50 and 100 cm adapted to the transfer process. For the transfer to a car seat, a longer sliding board is used to bridge the door sill gap. As an aid to getting on, slide boards can also be permanently attached next to the driver's seat in cars. They can then be folded out for use.

Since the wheels of manually operated wheelchairs often protrude above the seat surface, loose sliding boards have an appropriate cutout so that they do not lie on the wheel at an angle. In addition, a curved wheel guard, called a “banana”, can be placed here to protect clothing.

It is used when the seated user pulls himself over fixed objects with his hands and arms or jerks over with swinging movements of the upper body.
