Transport motor vehicle

A transport motor cars according to Swiss law, a motor-driven vehicle, which is used for passenger or goods transport or to tow trailers ( Art. 11 and Art. 12 VTS ).

In Swiss law ( Art. 11 VTS) a distinction is made between motor vehicles for goods transport and motor vehicles for passenger transport:

  • A goods transport motor vehicle is a motor vehicle that transports things. This includes delivery vans ( EC vehicle class N 1 according to Art. 12 VTS), trucks and articulated lorries (classes N 2 and N 3 ). Motor vehicles, the structure of which serves as a utility space, for example a snack stand with wheels, a sales bus, etc. also belong to this category.
  • A passenger transport vehicle is a motor vehicle for the transport of people. This includes passenger cars (class M 1 ), minibuses (class M 2 ) and company cars (class M 3 ). The following applies to motorhomes : If at least 75% of the volume, including the driver's compartment and luggage compartment, can be used both for passenger transport and as living space, they are treated as motorhomes for passenger motor vehicles .
