Mepkin Trappist Abbey
The Trappist Mepkin Abbey (Latin Abbatia Beatae Mariae de Mepkin ; English Mepkin Abbey ) has been an American monastery in Moncks Corner , Berkeley County (South Carolina) , Diocese of Charleston , since 1949 .
history
The Trappist Abbey of Gethsemani founded the subsidiary Mepkin Abbey in 1949 (40 kilometers north of Charleston ) in the Cooper River valley , which was elevated to an abbey in 1955 .
