Triennial of Photography

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Triennale of Photography Hamburg is a festival of photography in Hamburg and the surrounding area.

The triennial goes back to the initiative of the photographer and collector FC Gundlach , who was able to win over the directors of Hamburg's major museums for this idea. Since 1999 there has been a photography festival in Hamburg and the surrounding area every three years, the decisive basis of which is the cooperation between museums and cultural institutions. The joint appearance of ten of the most important houses in a city for photography is unique not only nationally, but also internationally. This gave and continues to give impulses and impetus for many art galleries and numerous other organizers to open their spaces to photography. In the meantime, the Triennial of Photography has developed into an internationally important festival within the photography scene. In the 3rd Triennial in 2005, 83 organizers took part with a total of 114 exhibitions, which were visited by 260,000 guests. In addition to the diverse exhibitions that show the entire spectrum of the medium of photography, symposia, lectures and specialist conferences supplemented the program.
