Drum coating

Food colored by means of drum coating

The drum coating is a coating pan . It is suitable for coating bulk goods . The aim of the coating form is to cover all sides of an object with the different layers at the same time. In their simplest form, barrel coaters are rotating, inclined cylinders, usually made of stainless steel. In order to prevent the objects to be coated from sticking, the inner walls are usually ribbed. In order to ensure the required exposure time, the objects are lifted by an obstacle during the rotation. After a certain rotation, usually between 90 ° and 120 °, the objects to be coated roll off the obstacle and back onto the drum base. The coating agent is usually applied to the objects to be coated by means of six nozzles which are installed in the center of the drum. The inclination of the drum ensures that the objects move through the drum. A common area of application is food coating.
