The Česká národní banka (abbreviated ČNB, German Czech National Bank ) is the central bank of the Czech Republic , based in Prague . The Central Bank was established after the creation of the Czech Republic by Act No. 6/1993 Coll. In January 1993. It is a member of the European System of Central Banks .

tasks

The main goal of the National Bank is to maintain price stability . The secondary aim is to support the general economic policy of the Czech government with regard to sustainable economic growth, provided this does not conflict with the primary aim. The central bank adheres to the principles of the open market economy. It is also responsible for the supply of money and payments, determines monetary policy and acts as a supervisory authority for the financial market.

The governing body is the seven-member bank council ( bankovní rada ), which consists of the governor, two vice-governors and four other members. All members are appointed by the President for a period of six years. Repeated exercise is only possible once, and dismissal only in certain cases.

The basic concept of the National Bank is based on strict independence from the government. It may not accept or request any instructions from the President, the government, parliament or any other institution. The National Bank and the government only need to inform each other about monetary and economic policy measures.
