Tulga

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tulga was King of the Visigoths from December 20, 639 to April 17, 642 .

Tulga was the son and successor of Chintila , but when he died in 639, he was still a minor. He was the first Visigoth king to be made co-regent during his father's lifetime not by a mere decision of the ruler, but by an act of election. Thus the will of the ruler was carried out, but at the same time the electoral principle was formally satisfied.

Tulga was overthrown in 642 by a noble rebellion. Chindaswinth took over the royal office . Tulga was put in a monastery and thus incapable of governing as a monk ; his further fate is unknown. With this, Chintila's attempt to establish a dynasty failed.
