Vaurseine Tower

Vaurseine Tower

The tower of Vaurseine is located east of Vaurseine and twelve kilometers southeast of Laon . It is the last remnant of a medieval castle of Vaurseine, which was on a small island in an artificial lake. Apparently it dates from the 15th century; however, some elements suggest that it originated in the 13th century. It is partially reconstructed. The tower has a round floor plan. It is privately owned and not open to the public.

During the First World War, German soldiers named the tower after Bismarck . An inscription with the text "1815 / Bismarck Tower / 1915" was removed again after the war.
