The Unter St. Veit station is a station on the Vienna underground line U4 in the 13th district of Hietzing . It is named after the former Vienna suburb Unter Sankt Veit , which is located south of the station in the 13th district.

history

Originally, the, on behalf of the Commission for traffic installations in Vienna built, station Upper Wientallinie the Vienna steam rail that the station Hütteldorf-Hacking for Meidling main road led, and was called Unter St. Veit Baumgarten . Its construction was completed in October 1896, the opening on June 1, 1898. In 1910 a vestibule was installed, before the Vienna Electric Light Rail began operating in 1925 . On February 21, 1945, the station was completely destroyed by a bomb, which lost the original architectural character of the station with the typical elements of Otto Wagner . The trains therefore went through without stopping until 1947, namely until February 14 in the direction of Meidling and until March 4 in the direction of Hütteldorf. The reconstruction was carried out in a simplified form, but the old foundations were still used, whereby the structure of the structure corresponded to the old station. In the post-war period it also lost its addition “Baumgarten”, which is still present on the network plan from September 1959, but has already been omitted from the network plan from 1962.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the station was heavily rebuilt for underground operations using the U-Bahn architectural group's panel system and reopened on December 20, 1981. A B6 station for the electricity company was also built on the west side.
