US Cup
The US Cup , also known as the United States Cup, USA Cup and Nike US Cup, was a football invitation tournament that took place regularly from 1992 to 2000 and was organized by the US Football Association and held in the USA . The aim of this tournament was to make the sport more popular in the USA. There was both a men's and a women's tournament.
The men's tournament was held annually from 1992 to 2000 , with the exception of 1994 and 1998, in which a soccer world championship took place.
The women's tournament took place annually from 1995 to 2002, but was canceled in 2001 because of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 .
mode
The USA regularly invited three national teams . The tournament was in mode "FFA" held, which each team had to contest three games. The table leader after all six games were played was the winner of the US Cup.
As an exception, the men's tournament in 1999 and the women's tournament in 2000 were played in a knockout system , according to which the winners of the first game played the final and the losers of the first game played the game for third place.
Participation of German teams
The German men's national team took part in the tournament in 1993 and won it. The German women's team recorded a win and a loss in their only participation in 2001 before the third game was canceled due to the September 11 terrorist attacks .
