The Union Ice Hockey Club Gmunden ( UEHV for short ) is an Austrian ice hockey club from Gmunden , which is currently active in the 1st Upper Austrian regional league.

history

With the founding of the Gmunden ice skating club in 1870, the foundation stone for ice hockey was laid, at that time ice hockey was already started with soft balls, self-made clubs and leather helmets on the frozen Traunsee and the waters of the district. Ice hockey was officially played for the first time in the form of a championship in 1929, which is also the year the club was founded. In 1933 the then EC Gmunden achieved the title of Western District Master, in 1950 even the title of UNION Federal Master. In 1961 the national championship title was won and in the following years several good placements in the top field of Austria. In 1969, the chronic ice cream and staff shortage led to the cessation of gaming operations, but the club itself was continued.

In 1984 an artificial ice rink was built in Gmunden, which led to a revitalization of the club. In the following seasons the UEHV Gmunden took part in championships of the regional league, regional league and the major league . In the 1997/08 season he came third in the major league, and in the following season he was runner-up in the regional league center. In the 2007/08 season the championship title of the 1st Upper Austrian regional league was achieved and with the championship title of the Ice Hockey League East, the first national title could be won. In the following years the 2nd Upper Austrian regional league was played, in the 2015/16 season the championship was promoted to the 1st Upper Austrian regional league, in which the runner-up title was achieved in 2018/19.
