The USG Corporation is a US building materials manufacturer based in Chicago . The company is primarily known for its plasterboard products. USG is a subsidiary of Gebr. Knauf KG . The United States Gypsum Company was created in 1902 through the merger of 30 formerly independent gypsum manufacturers .
USG was taken over by the Bavarian Knauf Group for seven billion dollars in April 2019. The previous major shareholder was Berkshire Hathaway with a stake of 30.8%. The acquisition represents the largest company takeover in Knauf's history. In the course of the takeover, the shares of USG were delisted .
