USS Independence
The following ships of the United States Navy have so far carried the name USS Independence , which is supposed to symbolize the American need for independence.
- A sloop with ten guns bought in 1775 and scrapped in 1778, see Independence (sloop) .
- A brig with twelve guns bought in 1777 and sold again in 1779, see Independence (Brigg) .
- The Navy's first line and training ship, see USS Independence (1814) .
- A light aircraft carrier in World War II, see USS Independence (CVL-22) .
- A Forrestal-class aircraft carrier (1959-1998), see USS Independence (CV-62) .
- A littoral combat ship, see USS Independence (LCS-2) .
