Wall painting

U Pali Thein ( Burmese ဥ ပါ လိ သိမ် ) is an ordination hall in Bagan , Myanmar . It stands directly opposite the Htilominlo Temple .

history

The ordination hall U Pali Thein was probably built during the reign of King Nadaungmya (1210–1234). During the reign of King Bodawpaya (1782–1819), the outside of the hall was renovated and the inside was painted.

description

The wall paintings from 1794/95 depict the life of the last 28 Buddhas in a standardized form. Above a frieze with ornaments at the very bottom, in three rows above each, the same scene from the life of the 28 Buddhas is shown: first the Buddha preaching to his disciples, then the Buddha's exodus from his palace, and finally the Buddha's enlightenment under the holy tree. The pictures in a series only differ in details, just as the lives of the 28 Buddhas are essentially the same.
