Uglich Kremlin

Uglich Kremlin ( Russian Угличский кремль ) is a former citadel in the center of Uglich in Yaroslavl Oblast .

It is located on the right bank of the Volga between the Scholkowka and Kamenny Rytschey (Steinbach) rivers, which provided natural protection. The original walls and towers of the fortification of the Kremle were repeatedly destroyed and restored for the last time between 1660 and 1662. After being left to decay for centuries, they went off in the middle of the 18th century. Only remnants of the wall and the remains of the moat remind of this. The ensemble still preserved today includes the former prince's seat (from 1482), the Transfiguration Cathedral (1713 or 1716), the bell tower (1730), the Church of Demetrios or Blood Church (1692) and the town hall (1815). The church was restored between 1971 and 1976.
