Uhtred (Hwicce)
Uhtred (also Uhtredus, Uhctred ) was an Anglo-Saxon king of the Hwicce from 755 to after 779 .
Life
The few known facts of his life result from documents that he issued or signed as a witness: At the beginning of the reign of Offa von Mercien (757-796), Hwicce was given the title of regulus (small king ) by the three brothers Eanberht , Uhtred and Ealdred ) wore, ruled. The power of Mercia was so strong that Offa's consent was required for a donation of land to the church. Around 770 he carried the title subregulus (sub-king). Uhtred's date of death is unknown.
