Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Technical Chemistry

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Technical Chemistry is a lexicon on technical chemistry and related subjects, such as B. biotechnology, materials science, analytics or environmental protection. The first edition was published between 1914 and 1922 by Fritz Ullmann as a twelve-volume work. The last German edition (4th edition) comprised 25 volumes and the 5th ( English-language ) edition with the title Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry , which was completed in 1996, comprised 36 volumes. They were divided into seven volumes of general articles, twenty-eight lexical volumes, and an index volume.

The "Ullmann" is a classic multi-author work. Around 3,000 international authors from universities and, above all, from industry contributed to the fifth edition. In December 2002 the sixth edition was published in 40 volumes. The 7th printed edition will again comprise 40 volumes and appear in mid-2014. It is to be expected that more than 80% of the articles are updated in the new edition.

Since the fifth edition, the "Ullmann" can also be used electronically (DVD and via the Internet). Both versions can be used for one calendar year. With the purchase of the DVD, the user also receives free access to the online version, the updates of which appear quarterly.

The most recently responsible editor-in-chief was Hubert Pelc, formerly editor-in-chief of DECHEMA Gesellschaft für Chemische Technik und Biotechnologie e. V. in Frankfurt am Main.
