Ulrich Gabbert

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ulrich Gabbert (born April 11, 1947 in Magdeburg ) is a former German university professor . From 1992 until his retirement in 2014, he held the chair for numerical mechanics at the Institute for Mechanics ( IFME ) at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg .

Career

Ulrich Gabbert studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Magdeburg in what was then the GDR ; In 1971 he completed his studies as a graduate engineer . Gabbert remained as a graduate student at the Technische Hochschule Magdeburg and received his doctorate in 1974 with the Promotion A to Doktoringenieur . He then worked as a research assistant at the university until 1976 .

Gabbert then worked as a calculation engineer in the combine pumps and compressors in Halle (Saale) . After three years he moved back to the TH Magdeburg and worked there as a senior assistant . In 1984 he was appointed head of the Methodical-Diagnostic Center Finite Elements , after having acquired the Facultas Docendi for technical mechanics two years earlier .

In 1987 Gabbert was awarded the doctorate B , he then carried the title of Dr.sc.techn. , which was converted to habilitation in 1991 after the political change in the GDR . Gabbert has held the university professorship for numerical mechanics at Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg since 1992 .

Gabbert is, together with the university professor at the TU Berlin , Manfred Zehn , managing director of FEMCOS GmbH , an engineering office for numerical analyzes that also specializes in the finite element method.

Gabbert retired in 2014 .

Research priorities and publications

Gabbert's main research areas are numerical mechanics , and he has specialized in the development of numerical methods using the finite element method . Further research focuses on structural mechanics and the simulation of technical systems.

In 2003 Gabbert published the textbook Technical Mechanics for industrial engineers , which is intended as a textbook to enable entry into technical mechanics and is designed for studying industrial engineering. It was published in its seventh edition in 2013 .

Awards

In 2002 Gabbert received the Otto von Guericke Research Prize from the university for his scientific achievements on the subject of "Methods and software for the design of intelligent structural systems". In 2002 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Miskolc in Hungary .
