UltraEdit is a text and hex editor for Windows , Linux and Mac OS X .

The program is developed by IDM Computer Solutions, Inc. , based in Hamilton, Ohio , and is distributed as shareware .

Program functions

The main features of UltraEdit are:

  • Syntax highlighting for numerous programming and design languages.
  • Unicode support (but not in file names).
  • Processing of large files (+4 GB).
  • Dictionaries and autocompletion .
  • Flexible data sorting function.
  • The ability to edit rectangular blocks (column mode).
  • Simultaneous editing of several lines (multi-caret editing).
  • Different types of line breaks can be converted into each other.
  • Code folding is supported (including for C ++ , C , Java and PHP ).
  • Regular expression support for search and replace.
  • Find and replace can be used not only on open files, but also on all files in a defined folder (and optionally also its subfolders) whose file names match a certain search pattern.
  • Frequently occurring processing steps can be recorded and reproduced in macros.
  • Projects (workspaces) can be created.
  • External programs can be executed from the editor and their output can be redirected to a file or an output window.
  • Integrated FTP and SSH / telnet client.

IDM Computer Solutions, Inc. has been producing UltraEdit and other software since 1994. IDM claims that it has licensed UltraEdit over 2 million times.
