Ultra Stereo was developed by former employees around 1985 in competition with Dolby .

Ultra Stereo is an analog 2/4 optical tone process with the same technical key data as Dolby Stereo , but the quality of which it does not quite achieve.

Ultra Stereo is mainly used in low budget productions because of its low price. According to the Internet Movie Database , 834 films (mostly B-movies ) are mixed down in ultra stereo.

Ultra Stereo also decodes Dolby A, Dolby SR and dts-stereo optical sound tracks.

Ultra stereo systems can be retrofitted with all common digital film sound systems.
