Umay Umay

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Umay Umay, actually Umay Gedikoğlu, (* 1966 in Trabzon ) is a Turkish singer and poet.

Gedikoğlu fell in love with a football player from the Trabzonspor club at the age of eighteen and fled with him to Istanbul , where they married. Their only child, a daughter, comes from this marriage. However, the marriage failed quite early. After this time Umay Umay began a very changeable love life, which is reflected in her literary work.

She is particularly committed to minorities and outcasts from her home country (Kurds, street children, homosexuals). The most successful was Umay Umay's first album from 1994. Your subsequent albums could not build on this success. At the beginning of her career, Umay served the punk image. This is no longer the case today. Your styling is still alternative.

Umay also writes as a columnist in a Turkish newspaper.
