Transshipment right

The right of cargo handling was granted to a city by the respective sovereign . Passing merchants were obliged to unload their goods from the previous means of transport, to forward them on the city's means of transport, such as ships or carts (Rodfuhr) and to offer them for sale at favorable conditions (forced sale). Together with the right of handling, the cities usually had a stacking right .
