United States Air Force Electronics Test Unit

The United States Air Force Electronics Test Unit was a research unit of the United States Air Force that operated in Antarctica from 1957 to 1958 as part of the International Geophysical Year .

The unit consisted of two ski runners equipped Douglas C-47s from Bolling Air Force Base . Their task was to test electronic positioning systems for mapping and creating aerial photographs over an area of ​​more than 150,000 km² in a radius of 600 km from Ellsworth Station .
