United States Space Command

The United States Space Command (USSPACECOM) is a unitary combatant command of the US Department of Defense .

It was originally created in September 1985 to coordinate the use of space by the United States Armed Forces. The Commander in Chief of the United States Space Command (CINCUSSPACECOM) also served as Commander in Chief of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (CINCNORAD) and was the Commander of the Air Force Space Command for most of the USSPACECOM's existence .

In 2018 it was announced that the US space command would be reinstated as a unified combatant command. The intent to reactivate and approve it by Congress was announced on August 29, 2019. General John W. Raymond , USAF, is Commander, United States Space Command and Commander, Air Force Space Command.
