The Universidad Espíritu Santo , formerly Universidad de Especialidades del Espíritu Santo , is a non-profit private university in Guayaquil , Ecuador .
The university was approved in 1993 by the Ecuadorian University Authority (CONESUP) and the then Ecuadorian President Sixto Durán-Ballén and founded by Carlos Ortega Maldonado. Initially the university started with only one faculty for economics, in 1997 the faculty for law, politics and development was established together with the English-language course "International". In 2001, the Faculty of Computer Science, Telecommunications and Electronics and the Faculty of Humanities moved into a new campus. This was followed by the Faculties of Communication (2001), Architecture and Design (2002), Tourism and Hotel Management (2003) and International Studies (2004). Over 5000 students are taught in 51 study programs at 10 faculties.
