The University of Tennessee at Martin (also UT Martin or UTM called) is a state university in Martin in the US state of Tennessee . There are currently 6,500 students enrolled here.

history

UT Martin was founded in 1900 as a Baptist college and was then called the Hall-Moody Institute . When the school was in danger of closure in 1927, the institute was taken over by the state and joined the University of Tennessee as the University of Tennessee Junior College . In 1951 Bachelor degrees were offered for the first time and the college was now called the University of Tennessee Martin Branch . In 1967 it was finally accepted as a full campus in the University of Tennessee system . It was then that it was given its current name.

Faculties

The university is divided into five faculties:

  • Agriculture and Applied Sciences
  • Economics and Public Affairs
  • Education and behavioral sciences
  • Engineering and natural sciences
  • Humanities and arts

Sports

The UTM sports teams are the Skyhawks . The college is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference .
