All-round lower leg protector

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The all-round lower leg protector is a device to protect the lower leg , especially the shin .

Injuries to the lower leg are often extremely complicated and result in long downtimes. The shin in particular is very vulnerable as it is not protected by muscle tissue. Apart from the fact that injuries to the shin are very painful, there is a possibility that slight abrasions can lead to periosteum inflammation . It is mainly used in mining .

Development history

Until the beginning of 1966 there were only half-shells made of light metal and plastic, which offered sufficient protection against injuries to the shin, but left the rear part of the lower leg completely unprotected. In order to prevent the many lower leg injuries, complete all-round protection has been developed.

What was needed was a plastic that is both dimensionally stable and elastically deformable and at the same time has good strength properties. Polyethylene proved to be a suitable material with which the Paul Ködding company could produce a round shape of the protector ("all-round protector"). The comfortable interior padding largely absorbs bumps and blows against the entire lower leg. The company received utility model protection from the patent office in 1966 for this all-round lower leg protector.
