Uperi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Uperi was a king of Dilmun who lived around 710 BC. Ruled and was contemporary of the Assyrian ruler Sargon II .

Uperi is mentioned in the annals of Sargon II, where it is said that Uperi sent gifts and that his home is like a fish 30 double hours away in the middle of the sea of the rising sun . This brief remark is of particular importance in research because it testifies that Dilmun must have been an island. It is one of the main pieces of evidence for the identification of Dilmun with the present-day island of Bahrain .

In the ancient city of Qal'at al-Bahrain in Bahrain, a state building was found in Layer IV, which dates to the Assyrian period. This is often referred to as the Palace of the Uperi . However, the naming is pure speculation.
