VDE Young Net

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The VDE Young Net (old spelling VDE YoungNet) is the network for schoolchildren, students and young professionals in the Association of Electrical, Electronics and Information Technology (VDE). It offers a platform for regional and nationwide cooperation and facilitates the coordination and planning of various events.

structure

The VDE Young Net network has over 8,000 student members in 29 district associations and over 60 university groups nationwide.

History of the YoungNet

At the first central meeting of young members on September 4, 1980 in Frankfurt, a regular meeting was decided after a discussion among young members and a subsequent questioning among members.

The Young Members' Assembly (from October 13, 1986 “Young Members Committee”, “JMA” for short) dealt with the improvement of the flow of information to its members, their support in their work in the district associations and with questions about studying such as B. Industrial internship, engineering training and professional representation.

College groups

In the VDE Young Net there are over 60 university groups at almost all university locations in Germany. The university groups are led by local students. They organize round tables, excursions and other events for the members. The Germany-wide networking of these university groups is the VDE YoungNet and the young members' meeting that takes place twice a year.

University groups of the VDE YoungNet exist u. a. in Aachen, Bochum, Braunschweig, Bremen, Chemnitz, Clausthal, Cottbus, Darmstadt, Dortmund, Dresden, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Erlangen, Freiburg, Gelsenkirchen, Hanover, Ilmenau, Kaiserslautern, Karlsruhe, Kassel, Krefeld, Landshut, Leipzig, Mannheim, Munich , Osnabrück, Saarbrücken, Steinfurt, Stuttgart, Trier, Ulm.

Teams

In addition to three permanent teams, two further project teams, the esd team and the convention team, are formed to plan the major events. The permanent teams have the following tasks:

  • Engineering education (IA)

The engineering training team deals with all questions relating to training. With position papers and statements, it accompanies current political processes and their influence on teaching in technical courses. The team has summarized the demands of the students in the VDE when introducing the bachelor and master courses and incorporated them into the work of the association. A “Best Practice Guide” provides first-year students with tips for easier entry into the course. As a current project, the team is writing a “Guide for the creation of scientific papers”, such as B. the diploma or bachelor thesis.

  • International Contacts (IC)

The team works together with the European partner associations that have come together in EUREL in Workgroup 12. The aim of this working group is to set up a young member organization on a European level. For members of the VDE, above all, contacts are to be established that make studying abroad easier and more attractive, as well as promoting participation in international congresses and meetings of the partner associations.

  • Public Relations (PR)

The Public Relations team deals with the presentation of the YoungNet in the VDE and in public. It creates information material on YoungNet as well as concept papers and working templates for university groups. New university groups are actively supported in founding them and existing ones in recruiting. As a guide to successfully rebuilding a university group, a guideline containing important tips and tricks was developed based on the experience of other university groups.

Young Members Committee (JMA)

The young members' committee is the supraregional interest group for students in the VDE. It consists of representatives of all (participating) university groups and district associations, the three YoungNet speakers, a supra-regional young member speaker and the heads of the teams IA, IC, PR, ESD (e-studentday) and YNC (Young Net convention). The committee meets twice a year. There is a lively exchange of information between the university groups, the teams report on their work and new projects are initiated and funded. In addition, the university groups pass on their feedback to the participants on the course of events. The office reports on news from the association.

Major events

The VDE Young Net organizes two larger events every year:

Young Net Convention

The YoungNet Convention always alternates every two years with the e-student day. It always takes place in the run-up to a VDE congress. Around 700 students regularly take part. In addition to specialist lectures on various subject areas, the content of which is mostly based on the program of the congress, interdisciplinary lectures are held and panel discussions on socio-political topics, such as B. Effects of globalization on the engineering profession. Participants also have the opportunity to make their first contacts with companies on the company contact exchange and to find out about vacancies for internships and theses. The convention will be rounded off by a supporting program with factory tours of the surrounding companies and evening events.

e-studentday

As at the convention, representatives from politics and business give lectures on specialist and social topics. A career fair and a school forum designed to arouse interest in electrical engineering as a subject are also part of the program.

European cooperation

In order to further advance the networking between electrical engineering associations from a student perspective, the VDE Young Net works with other European associations and organizations such as EUREL. The annual Young Engineers Seminar in Brussels with participants from the various technical-scientific associations in Europe promotes cooperation and contacts between German university groups and groups from other European countries. In addition, the EUREL annually organizes the International Management Cup, a European case study competition for European students and young professionals.
