Vainikkala [ ˈʋɑi̯nikˌkɑlɑ ] is a village in southeastern Finland with about 400 inhabitants. It belongs to the city of Lappeenranta , the center of which is around 29 km north.

Vainikkala is right on the border with Russia , which is why there is also a large and important train station here. Trains to Russia stop here so that border and customs control can be carried out. In 2007 almost 400,000 people crossed the border at Vainikkala.

The train from St. Petersburg to Helsinki stops in Vainikkala several times a day. The freight terminal makes Vainikkala an important hub for trade between Russia and the EU .
