Variable gain adjustment
A Variable Gain Adjustment , or Variable Gain Attenuator (also called “Step attenuator”), VGA for short , is an electronically adjustable attenuator in an RF path. The damping can be set both binary and analog (via a control voltage).
A VGA is used, among other things, in mobile communications .
A variable attenuation is required to attenuate an input signal that is too strong, so that e.g. B. do not overdrive the downstream amplifier.
In order to achieve an optimal adjustment, there are VGAs that can be varied in 0.5 dB steps.
