Veletržní palác

Veletržní palác (German Trade Fair Palace ) is a large building in the Prague district of Holešovice ( Czech Republic ). It was designed for trade fairs and exhibitions. The building was designed by the architects Josef Fuchs and Oldřich Tyl and built in the years 1925–1928 in a purely functional style.

First, sample fairs were held. The palace impressed the exhibitors, but also visitors with its size and modern design. After 1939, the building and the surrounding area were used by the German Reich authorities as a collection point for Jews from Bohemia and Moravia before they were transported to the concentration camps .

After the Second World War it became the seat of foreign trade companies. The building burned down on August 14, 1974. The Prague National Gallery acquired the remains in the late 1970s . In the 1990s the building was reconstructed and declared a national cultural asset. Today it serves as a museum for the permanent exhibition of works of art from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.
