Velizar Iliev

Velizar Iliev (born March 9, 1966 in Wraza ) is a former American athlete of Bulgarian origin who was active in the modern pentathlon .

In 1986 he won gold for Bulgaria at the Junior World Championships. But his subsequent doping test was positive for beta blockers . The title was revoked and Iliev was banned for 30 months.

He later became an American. With the team of the United States he won bronze at the 1999 World Championships in the relay competition. At the World Championships in 2000 he was two-time world champion, in the relay and in the team competition. At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney he reached ninth place.
