Veoh Networks, Inc. is a San Diego , California- based subsidiary of the Israeli Internet company Qlipso that provides Internet TV service. Users can view material from major film production companies as well as independent and own productions.

According to a study by Quantcast.com , the number of visitors to veoh.com in 2008 was around 17 million monthly visitors.

history

Veoh was founded in 2003 by Dmitry Shapiro . The company launched a first version in September 2005 and launched its beta version in March 2006. Veoh was officially launched in February 2007 (after the beta version). Veoh has received approximately $ 40 million in investment. Important investors are Time Warner , Michael Eisner's Tornante Company, Spark Capital, Shelter Capital Partners, Tom Freston's Firefly3 LLC and Jonathan Dolgen.

In 2008, the company won a lawsuit against the Io Group for the unauthorized disclosure of copyrighted video material. According to the judges, Veoh has taken sufficient measures against copyright infringement to qualify for exemptions from the Digital Millennium Copyright Act . This case law is seen as groundbreaking for the decision in the legal dispute between Viacom and Google , in which the same question should be answered. Similar legal disputes against Universal Music Group were also decided in January and September 2009 in favor of Veoh.

The two years of lawsuits led, among other things, to the fact that Veoh had to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in February 2010 . In the same year Veoh was acquired for an undisclosed amount by the Israeli internet company Qlipso.
